Some projects are about construction.
Others are about creating experiences.
The Cullen Residence Custom Bar was one of those rare projects where the objective extended far beyond the physical space itself. The goal was to create a destination within the home—a place where friends could gather, business relationships could be built, celebrations could unfold, and memories could be made.
When entrepreneur Zac Cullen approached Beatty Built, he wasn't looking for a typical home bar. He wanted something unique. Something personal. Something guests would remember long after they left.
The challenge was exciting because the space began as a blank canvas.
There was no existing bar to renovate, no template to follow, and no preconceived limitations. The opportunity existed to create something entirely custom from the ground up.
From the earliest design conversations, it became clear that the space needed to accomplish several goals simultaneously. It needed to feel luxurious without being pretentious. It needed to be highly functional for entertaining. It needed to incorporate modern technology while maintaining the warmth and character of the home's Tuscan-inspired architecture.
Most importantly, it needed to feel like Zac.
Every detail of the project was designed, engineered, fabricated, and installed by Beatty Built. This design-build approach allowed every decision to be made with the complete project in mind, rather than treating design, engineering, and construction as separate phases.

Rich cherry hardwood became the foundation of the space, bringing warmth and timeless character to the room. Natural stone, wrought iron, aluminum accents, and custom lighting layers were carefully selected to complement the architecture of the residence while creating an atmosphere that felt both inviting and sophisticated.

As the design evolved, the project began taking on a life of its own.
A custom illuminated Honey Onyx bar top became one of the room's defining features. During the day, the natural stone showcases its unique veining and organic beauty. In the evening, the integrated lighting transforms the countertop into a glowing centerpiece that changes the entire mood of the space.

A custom wine wall and serving station were incorporated to balance aesthetics with functionality, providing both storage and a focal point opposite the main bar area.

The most talked-about feature, however, became the custom water wall and hidden entertainment system. Behind the flowing stone water feature lies a concealed television lift system that reveals dual televisions and a custom family crest inspired by the client's heritage. The feature blends technology, art, and engineering into a single experience that continues to surprise first-time visitors more than a decade later.

What many people don't realize is that the visible finishes represent only a fraction of the effort required to bring a project like this to life.
Behind the scenes, extensive planning went into plumbing systems, electrical infrastructure, drainage coordination, lighting design, refrigeration integration, specialty automation systems, and future serviceability. Every component was designed not only to look beautiful on day one, but to function reliably for years to come.
That philosophy continues to guide every project we undertake.
Beautiful projects attract attention.
Well-engineered projects stand the test of time.
More than ten years after completion, the Cullen Residence Custom Bar remains one of the most memorable projects in the Beatty Built portfolio. Not because of any single feature, but because of how all the elements work together to create an experience.
The project serves as a reminder that great design is about more than materials and finishes. It's about understanding how people live, entertain, connect, and create memories within a space.
At Beatty Built, our goal has never been simply to build projects.
Our goal is to create environments that people genuinely enjoy experiencing.
The Cullen Bar is one of our favorite examples of what happens when creativity, craftsmanship, engineering, and trust all come together to make something truly unique.
